Je hebt waarschijnlijk mijn eerdere post (in het engels) al gelezen: Daniel is uitvoerend producent van de HBO-Original documentaire David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived over stuntman David Holmes die met hem samen werkte tijdens de opnames van Harry Potter. David raakte verlamd door een ernstig ongeluk in 2009 tijdens de opnames voor Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, in het Nederlands Harry Potter en de Relieken van de Dood. HBO Documentary Films produceert de documentaire in samenwerking met SKY, een Lightbox / Ripple Production.

De documentaire is vanaf 16 november te streamen op HBO Max. De wereld première is tijdens het DOC:NYC Festival op 13 november. De eerste screening zal worden opgevolgd met een Q&A met filmmakers en speciale gasten regisseur Dan Hartley, David Holmes zelf, editor Kevin Konak en Daniel Radcliffe als speciale gast.

DAVID HOLMES: THE BOY WHO LIVED is een coming-of-age verhaal van stuntman David Holmes, een buitengewone tienergymnast uit Essex, Engeland, die wordt gekozen om Daniel Radcliffe's stuntdubbel te spelen in de eerste Harry Potter-film, wanneer Daniel net elf jaar is. Gedurende de volgende tien jaar vormen de twee een onlosmakelijke band, maar bij de voorlaatste film leidt een tragisch ongeluk op de set ertoe dat David verlamd raakt door een ernstig ruggenmergletsel, wat zijn wereld op zijn kop zet. Terwijl Daniel en zijn nauwste collega-stuntmannen zich inzetten om David en zijn familie te ondersteunen, is het Davids buitengewone geestelijke veerkracht die hun grootste bron van kracht en inspiratie wordt.

This news is just out: Daniel is executive producer of a new documentary called David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived about the extraordinary story of his stunt double, David Holmes who worked with him on Harry Potter and was seriously injuted while filming a scene for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows back in 2009. Produced by HBO Documentary Film in association with Sky, a Lightbox / Ripple Production.

It's coming to on demand on HBO on 15th November, and will be available to stream on Max, (US) and on Sky Documentaries and streaming service NOW on 18th November (UK).

The world premiere takes place at DOC:NYC Festival on 13th November. The first screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmakers and special guests director Dan Hartley, subject David Holmes, editor Kevin Konak, and special guest Daniel Radcliffe.

From the press release, synopsis:

The film is a coming-of-age story of stuntman David Holmes, a prodigious teenage gymnast from Essex, England, who is selected to play Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double in the first Harry Potter film, when Daniel is just eleven. Over the next ten years, the two form an inextricable bond, but on the penultimate film a tragic accident on set leaves David paralysed with a debilitating spinal injury, turning his world upside down. As Daniel and his closest stunt colleagues rally to support David and his family in their moment of need, it is David’s extraordinary spirit of resilience that becomes their greatest source of strength and inspiration.

Featuring candid personal footage shot over the last decade, behind-the-scenes material from Holmes’ stunt work, scenes of his current life and intimate interviews with David, Daniel Radcliffe, friends, family, and former crew, the film also reflects universal themes of living with adversity, growing up, forging identities in an uncertain world, and the bonds that bind us together and lift us up.

Merrily We Roll Along participates in Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA)'s Red Bucket Follies (formerly Gypsy of the Year) fall fundraising campaign in the coming six weeks. It's variety show is back after 4 years because of coronavirus pandemic shutdown and restrictions. For more information visit broadwaycares.org/redbucketfollies. (at this point it is not clear if "Merrily" will also be performing at the show)
