Happy New Year, 2013!

It's that time of the year again.. the end of one, and the start of a new one. To name a few things we could enjoy in 2012: The Woman in Black, the BAFTA awards, Dan at the White House correspondents dinner, the Met gala and Dan's debute in a music clip + Daniel joining social media with Google+ (finally) For Dan it was a year with quite some work, which also means we have quite some projects to enjoy next year: The F Word, Kill Your Darlings, Horns & The Cripple of Inishmaan, are all coming up.

Then, (like I do every year) I would ofcourse want to thank all of you who have visited this website this year. Without you all I would have no reason to continue updating this website. Then, to all the affiliates/partners of Daniel J Radcliffe Holland: thanks a lot for the support! Let's hope that the partnership will last long. And last but not least: I also like to thank everyone who has provided news/pictures or anything else to the site, thank you.

Don't forget: To stay updated and never miss any news from the site, follow us on Facebook and Twitter. (we passed 9.000) The site joined Google+ too (since Dan did ofcourse) but it probably won't be updated a lot. Enjoy this last day of 2012 (I certainly will, it's also my birthday) & Happy New Year!

The completion of Five Harry Potter Places Travel Guidebooks

To all Potter fans! CD Miller has provided me the news that the collection of the Harry Potter Places Travel Guidebooks is completed (5 books in total). I did already publish a review of book one earlier this year.

From their press release:

No other Harry Potter travel guidebooks (or travel websites) provide as much Potterly important information! Whether simply dreaming of a Potterverse journey, or actually preparing for one, Potterites will thoroughly enjoy the Harry Potter Places travel guidebooks.

After four years of research, CD Miller and a host of helpful Harry Potter fans managed to find sixty-eight (68) Harry Potter places in the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and one in Bjorli, Norway. We’ll lead you to every real-life location described in JK Rowling’s books, the places where filming occurred, and several sites that inspired the set designs seen on screen.

- Harry Potter Places Book One—London and London Side-Along Apparations
- Harry Potter Places Book Two—OWLs: Oxford Wizarding Locations
- Harry Potter Places Book Three—Snitch-Seeking in Southern England and Wales

A Young Doctor's Notebook: Episode guide
Below you find the episode guide of the upcoming Sky Arts drama A Young Doctor's Notebook.

Warning: spoilers

Episode 1

Thursday 6 December 2012, 9pm

Based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s collection of short stories, A Country Doctor’s Notebook, the series follows a recently-graduated young medic (Radcliffe) who is forced to say farewell to life in bustling Moscow to take up a post as a doctor in a small, remote hospital a thousand miles from the capital, and half a day’s journey from the nearest shop.

Hamm plays the young doctor 17 years on, who finds his old diary while answering to the authorities about self-prescribing morphine. He has a series of comic exchanges with his young and inexperienced self, mocking him for his youthful looks and guiding him through his early difficulties on the job.

Episode 2
Thursday 13 December 2012, 9pm

The young doctor (Radcliffe) grows increasingly frustrated with his patients, who exploit his naivety and fail to heed his desperate warnings about the dangers of syphilis. When an eight-year-old girl falls on a lathe, he is also forced to conduct a double amputation. Blinded with panic, his older self (Hamm) does little to put his nerves at ease as he prepares his blunt saw for the operation of his career.

Episode 3
Thursday 20 December 2012, 9pm

While revolution hangs in the air in Moscow, the young doctor (Daniel Radcliffe) feels increasinglyisolated in the tiny and remote village of Muryovo. Longing for cigarettes, a newspaper and “a knock on the door that isn’t a dying girl”, he packs his trunk for the day-round trip to the nearest shop, only to learn that it doesn’t open until August.

Desperate to escape, he jokes about how many people he might have to let die before he is stripped of his licence and allowed to return to the bright lights and shops of Moscow. Meanwhile, his older self (Jon Hamm) begins to suffer from the unsavoury side effects of his acute morphine addiction. The doctor is hit by terrible stomach pains when an unconscious girl is carried into the surgery.

To his horror, he realises he will need to perform a complicated tracheotomy; however, the hardest part is convincing her family that the girl’s problem cannot be solved with drops or pills. After also assisting during a tragic birth in the snow, the doctor takes to his bed, bent double with stomach ache. Desperate to stop the pain and to escape the snow and boredom of Muryovo, he reaches for his medical bag. And, despite the protests of his older self, fills a syringe with morphine.

Episode 4
Thursday 27 December 2012, 9pm

After a performing a recent tracheotomy made him famous, the young doctor (Radcliffe) is inundated with patients as the episode opens. However, despite his newfound celebrity, behind closed doors he begins to experience the embarrassing and unsavoury side effects that have been plaguing his older self (Hamm).

Repulsed by what is happening to his body, the young doctor takes a bath. Joined in the tub by Hamm, he vows to make a clean start and decides to open a specialist syphilis clinic to combat the disease rife in his remote village. During a long journey to a patient with a critical head injury, he defiantly hurls the key to the morphine cupboard into the snow. But, on his return, withdrawal symptoms hit him hard.

His older self makes an unwelcome appearance in the carriage, blaming the young doctor for destroying his life, dignity and friendships with his weakness. In too deep to heed the warning and turn his life around, he throws himself from the carriage and begins to search for the lost key. But, while scrabbling in the snow, he spirals into dark hallucinations in which he is haunted by a terrible fate and a visit from his revered predecessor Leopold Leopoldovich.

Exclusive: Daniel Radcliffe has joined social media: Google+

Josh Horowitz from MTV News just posted the news online that Daniel Radcliffe has joined social media, but not with Facebook or Twitter. Some of you (well I did) may have noticed the verified Google+ account already some weeks ago.
"This has mainly come about because of the amount of people that I meet who tell me that they have contacted me on Twitter or Facebook when I know that's impossible — because I don't belong to either one of those sites," Radcliffe told MTV News about joining Google+. "Now that I have this page, there will be an outlet for accurate information and hopefully people will not waste their time giving credence to people pretending to be me."

So, Radcliffe hopes his frequently-updated Google+ page will keep imposters out and the facts straight regarding his professional life. "It will be active," he said, "but with updates about things I'm working on or have worked on, including things I'm passionate about, like The Trevor Project. What it won't be is the minutia of my daily life, like what's on the craft services table."

So while Radcliffe's Google+ won't let you know whether or not he picked macaroni and cheese for lunch on the "Horns" set, it will still provide insight into his craft and career goals. But with more and more inside details on one of today's hottest actors readying their way onto the web, it would be completely understandable if Radcliffe is feeling some trepidation over his official online debut.

"Trepidation sums it up very well," he agreed. "It's a sense of not knowing what to expect, as opposed to any actual worries."
Are you active on Google+ and ready to follow Daniel (or you do already)? You can also follow Daniel J Radcliffe Holland while I still try to figure out how everything works...

Unseen photos etc. will also be shared on this site. Check the label Google+.

Daniel graciously welcomed all to his make-up trailer to share photos, what it is like living with the challenges of a medical condition and the love of all things horror. Daniel Radcliffe signs caps for Caps For Kids

Curtis Akey has posted on Twitter that he has received caps from Daniel Radcliffe for Caps for Kids. You can view his photo below

    What's their mission:
To provide every child that is diagnosed and undergoing treatment for cancer or receiving chemotherapy to treat other life threatening illnesses a cap autographed by the celebrity of their choice.

To a child who has lost their hair due to the chemotherapy treatments, the caps help them establish a special bond with their caregiver/physician and their celebrity hero. We have found that many of the children garner strength from the autographed caps, and they feel as though their celebrity hero is right there with them fighting the battle against their illness.

Horns: Exclusive first look: Daniel Radcliffe as Ig Perrish (with horns)

Official first look at Daniel Radcliffe as Ignatius (Ig) Perrish in the fantasy/thriller Horns. This promotional photo is posted online by Entertainment Weekly.
Radcliffe describes his new role [in Horns] as “deeply emotional and also incredibly outrageous in some ways.” How outrageous? Well, let’s just say the 11-year-old Daniel Radcliffe we met in Harry Potter is nowhere to be found. In his place, we have Ig, who is accused of the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend before waking up and to find horns that come with a wildly tempting power trip — he can induce people to tell the truth or compel them to give into their ugliest inner urges. Says Radcliffe, “To play somebody who, in the midst of a time in his life of great turmoil anyway, undergoes this horrific transformation into a devil character — it was very, very exciting.”

It is reported by The Wrap that Daniel is interested in playing Igor (Hunchback) in 20th Century Fox's upcoming film Frankenstein. So he might be in talks for it.. more news if I have it.
The focus for now is getting a finalized script, at which point serious talks will begin with actors, the person said.

Earlier this month, McGuigan signed on to direct the film for Fox and producers Davis Entertainment.
Based on a script by Max Landis (“Chronicle”), this adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel of the same name, puts a sci-fi take on this classic story about a creature produced through a scientific experiment.
Hunchback is described as pathologically dirty and dressed in old clowns clothing.

"I've never seen [anything like] the way he works, such tenacity," Huston said. "He's got a hunger for the craft. It was one of the loveliest experiences."

Huston said that he understands the pressure Radcliffe faces moving forward in his career, but he thinks that people will be surprised when "Kill Your Darlings" comes out next year. "I think people are going to be shocked about how good he is," Huston said. "He's really coming into himself. It's very hard getting out of the shadow of something like 'Harry Potter' because... it's as big as it gets in the film world. I think he really wants to be considered the actor he's capable of actually becoming. I'm happy that I got to work with him and actually see him do what he's capable of doing."

A parody on J.K. Rowling's The Casual Vacancy

A parody on J.K. Rowling's The Casual Vacancy

Not directly Dan related news but still interesting: You all probably know that J.K. Rowling is publishing a new adult fiction novel: The Casual Vacancy which is due to be released on the 27th September this year.

I received a press release from publisher Boxtree about a parody they released of the novel, called The Vacant Casualty by Patty O’Furniture which seems to be a good read (and is out already availably as ebook) so you might want to check out more info about it below.
Is it a murder mystery? Is it biting social satire? Who knows? Who cares?
You're not my mother - where am I?

This is a brilliantly funny parody of the world's most hotly anticipated new book, from the author of two Sunday Times bestselling humour titles. And we haven’t read it yet either! In fact its a world first a parody of a book not yet published.

Nothing ever seems to happen in the sleepy English town of Mumford unless you count the man with the axe in his back, staggering down the street getting blood everywhere and leaving a vacancy on the Parish Council . . .

Into the fray steps Detective Inspector Bradley. Although he appears to be a plodding buffoon, incapable of detecting his own backside, that is exactly what he is. But when he teams up with a writer researching a detective novel, together they blunder towards the identity of the‘vacant casualty’, just hoping to get there before everyone in the town is murdered.

In this potty-mouthed, depraved parody, strewn with casual violence and sexual deviancy, you’ll discover granny mafia, farting tea-ladies, car chases, serial killers and lashings of tortoise milk. But no immigrants. This is the countryside, after all.

Published by Boxtree in ebook at £3.99 (out now) and in hardback on 13 September at £8.99.

The Vacant Casualty is not prepared, authorized, licensed, approved, or endorsed by the author or the publishers of The Casual Vacancy.

Daniel has a new role in another thriller/fantasy movie! (I like that personally) Variety reports today that Dan has signed on for Horns which will be financed by Red Granite Pictures. Based on the novel by Joe Hill & will be directed by Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D).
Daniel will portray the number one suspect (26 year old man) for the rape and murder of his girlfriend. He awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realizes their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their impulses -- an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend's tragedy.

Shooting is slated to begin this fall. Red Granite Pictures' international sales arm will handle foreign sales.

"After reading Joe Hill's cult book, I couldn't resist temptation to dive into the devilish underworld and reinvent a universal myth," Aja said.

Daniel reads the winning story of the Woman in Black YouTube ghost story competition

Back in October 2011, I did post about the YouTube ghost story competition for all the fans in the UK. The winning story, fear of hue by Nicky Torch, is narrated by Daniel and will featured on the DVD/Blu-ray & digital download. The video is released today by the official The Woman in Black UK Facebook page.

    Momentum Pictures press release:

To celebrate the DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Download release of THE WOMAN IN BLACK, on Monday June 18th, Daniel Radcliffe, star of the thrilling ghost story, today released a video of himself across YouTube and Facebook reading the winning haunting tale from last year’s THE WOMAN IN BLACK YouTube ghost story competition.

The competition was a resounding success with 177 harrowing, spooky stories submitted that were whittled down to ten finalists. Fans were encouraged to vote for their favourite story from 21st December to January 5th, 2012 in what was a fiercely competitive contest. Budding young writer Nicky Torch, 16 from Lancashire beat 177 other haunting and harrowing tales to become the winning entry with her story ‘Fear of Hue’.

Talking about winning the competition, Nicky says, “I entered but I had no idea I would win, I was happy enough to get in the top ten and I can't wait to see Daniel read my story!”

Nicky’s prize for winning the competition was to attend the world premiere of The Woman in Black and to have her story read out by Daniel Radcliffe on the DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download release of the film.

The stories shortlisted for the final ten were selected on the following judging criteria: creativity, originality and writing style, with the winning tale being voted the spooky favourite by fans on YouTube. Kristin Ryan from Momentum Pictures said “We’re delighted that The Woman in Black has inspired this winning ghost story and to have Daniel Radcliffe read this out is a real treat for fans.”

New project for Daniel Radcliffe: The play The Cripple Of Inishmaan

yes, Daniel is coming back to the London stage! (definitely something I had been hoping for personally) The Daily Mail & The Michael Grandage Company confirmed it. It will all officially start 8th June 2013 [until 31st August] with a production of Martin McDonagh’s called The Cripple Of Inishmaan, with Dan in the title role of "Cripple" Billy Claven.
Cripple Billy, orphaned since birth, just might have found a way off the Isle of Aran and a route all the way to Hollywood if he can persuade a small community of Islanders how much he wants to realise his dream.
Martin McDonagh’s comic masterpiece examines an ordinary coming of age in extraordinary circumstances and confirms his position as one of the most original Irish voices to emerge in the second half of the twentieth century.

Dan to the Daily Mail: ‘It’s got pathos, heartbreak — and it’s very funny,’ ‘a young boy desperate to be in film . . . I can relate to that. I’ve been desperate to find something to come back to London with.’
