"I became so reliant on alcohol to enjoy stuff. There were a few years there when I was just so enamoured with the idea of living some sort of famous person's lifestyle that really isn't suited to me."

Daniel says he gave up alcohol last August and now enjoys spending quality time with his girlfriend Olive Uniacke rather than partying.

"I'm actually enjoying the fact I can have a relationship with my girlfriend where I'm really pleasant and I'm not f***ing up totally all the time. As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn't work for me. I do that very unsuccessfully. I'd just rather sit at home and read, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh. There's no shame in enjoying the quiet life. And that's been the realisation of the past few years for me."

  1. Daniel,

As a follower of yours over the years, I have to admit, I get really excited when I read you are venturing on with other things. To me this shows great signs of growth within, self determination of carving your place in the world. The fall of previous child actors is the self-entitlement they had they someone or something owed them something. I have never seen this in you or even the other actors of Harry Potter series.

I wishes are well for you and your mates for a long and fruitful adult life.

    Dale in California.

  2. Good for you Daniel. You really got flung into a life where any problem with excesses of drugs, alcohol, work, sex, gambling, food and weight loss, can drag you down fast. And the business is full to the brim with people who will be only too glad to help you down that road.
Next time you are on the west coast, you might see if you could have a quiet meal with Craig Ferguson and shoot the sh*t with him. I have to say that the three of you (Emma, You and Rupert) seem to have ducked most of the damage that the industry can inflict. Now it becomes important to share and share and share with each bunch of kids starting the journey with Harry in year 1.

  5. I'm impressed - even when you falter, you don't have to screw up in a big way before you catch yourself - you've always struck me as an old soul - been there, done that, and bought the t-shirt many times... even more so now.

  6. Dan,

If you don't know what to do with your money, you could build a hospital, school or community center to help others.
I believe you're a smart person, so that assessment seems silly. There are lots of people who need help, and if one can provide it, why not?
Also, it's nice to hear you gave up something that wasn't doing you good.
